The Society for Adolescent and Young People’s Health in Nigeria (SAYPHIN) is pleased to announce the 3rd Nigeria Conference on Adolescent and Youth Health and Development. Abstracts are invited on cutting-edge research, programme interventions and policy analysis aimed at improving the knowledge and practices that advance the health and wellbeing of adolescents and young people aged 10 – 35 years in Africa. 

ABSTRACT TRACKS

Abstracts should be submitted in the following track categories:

Track 1: Inclusivity, equality, and diversity in adolescent and young people’s research and programmes

  • Youth leadership and participation in health and development policies and programs
  • Political priority, policy advocacy and funding for adolescent health and youth empowerment programs
  • Youth engagement and social accountability of adolescent health policies and programs
  • Models and evaluation of youth empowerment programs
  • Gender equity and empowerment of the girl child

 Track 2: Gender-based violence and the health and well-being of adolescents and young people

  • Gender expression and identity development
  • Harmful practices against women and children, including female genital cutting, child marriage and human trafficking
  • Dating and intimate partner violence, sexual harassment and rape
  • Sexual and gender-based violence, including males as victims

Track 3: Adolescents and young people in conflicts and humanitarian situation

  • Young people’s experiences and well-being in disaster and post-disaster
  • Knowledge and information-seeking among young people in conflicts situation, preventive measures, and practices
  • Epidemiology and control of communicable diseases among young people in conflict situation.
  • Impact of conflicts and humanitarian situation on young people (education, mental and physical health, social interactions etc.)
  • Access of young people to health and social services during conflicts and humanitarian situation

Track 4: Adolescent and young people, migration and cultural transitions

  • Education, capacity-building and economic well-being
  • Comprehensive sexuality education coverage and impact
  • Determinants of access, completion and quality of education and gender issues
  • Skills building for economic wellbeing and employability
  • Unemployment, youth entrepreneurship and economic empowerment models

Track 5: Climate change and impacts on adolescent and young people’s health and development

  • Current challenges of climate change and the health concerns of adolescent and young persons
  • Climate change and mental health and well-being of young people
  • Awareness-raising, education and capacity building of young persons on climate change mitigation, adaptation, impact reduction and early warning
  • Youth engagement in climate change planning and management

Track 6: Adolescent and young people and the sustainable development goals

  • Adolescents and youth sexual and reproductive health and rights
  • Sexual and reproductive health literacy, needs and behaviours
  • Adolescent- and youth-friendly services: access, quality, and effectiveness
  • Adolescent pregnancy, unsafe abortion, and childbearing
  • Sexually transmitted infections, including HIV

Track 7: Electronic media use &digital health, and young people’s health and development

  • Internet addiction and young people’s health
  • Electronic media use, misinformation, disinformation and rumour
  • Electronic media use, digital and mental health of adolescents
  • Digital media use, Sexual boundary violations and young people’s health and development
  • Youth engagement and empowerment in electronic media use and digital health

 

 

 

Abstracts are being accepted for the following types of sessions:

  • Oral sessions – Authors are requested to submit papers to the most appropriate sub-theme of their topic.
  • Poster sessions – Authors are requested to submit papers to the most appropriate sub-theme of their topic.

Papers that don’t get accepted for the oral session may be considered for the poster sessions.

There will be an award for the best abstract.

Abstract Submission Structure

Kindly adhere STRICTLY to the guidelines for your submission process.

  1. Track categories

During the submission process, you will be asked to select a track category for your abstract. Please identify the category that best suits your abstract. Before submission, ensure your abstract is formatted in line with the required abstract structure.

Abstract should be written in English and structured as follows:

  • Title (not more than 25 word)
  • Background
  • Methodology

  • Word count (not more than 250 words)

  1. Steps to follow for abstract submission

            Once you are ready to submit your abstract:

  • go online: conference.sayphin.org/abstracts
  • You will receive an acknowledgment of the receipt of the abstract via an email within three working days of your abstract submission.
  1. Deadline for abstract submission – 31st May 2023
  2. Review process

Abstracts will be evaluated for:

  • Originality – Contains significant new findings
  • Quality – Methodologically rigorous approach that significantly advances the evidence base for advancing adolescent health
  • Relevance – Directly addresses any of the scientific tracks of the conference
  • Presentation – Clearly presents material according to the abstract guidelines and uses clearly written and correct grammatical expressions
  1. Information for co-authors
  • A single registration permits only one person for conference attendance.
  • Co-authors will be required to register and pay for conference participation

 

The status of submitted abstracts will be sent to authors on a rolling basis from 3rd April till 30th May 2023.  The scientific committee makes the final decision on the type of presentation (Oral or Poster).
